What is charcoal?

Charcoal is a product of pyrolysis of wood without air access. Pyrolysis is the process of decomposition of organic substances by heating without (or with restriction) air access. The absence of air is necessary that the wood does not start to burn

The pyrolysis process is unique for at least two reasons:

  1. During pyrolysis, excess moisture and various volatile compounds are released from wood. Due to this, with further combustion of the charcoal itself, there is no smoke, it does not contain various harmful substances, such as sulfur and phosphorus, as well as almost no ash, which is the mineral residue from the combustion of wood. All these factors make it possible to use charcoal as a smokeless fuel for stoves, fireplaces, barbecues, as a reducing agent in the smelting of iron and the production of silicon
  2. During the pyrolysis of wood, the structure of its conductive tissues is preserved (along which water and dissolved nutrients move in the plant), therefore, in the finished charcoal there is a system of capillaries and pores, which together provide a large surface area, which contributes to the adsorption capacity . This results in another large block of charcoal applications, namely as a household or industrial filter, as well as a drug (activated medical charcoal).

According to GOST 7657-84 charcoal is divided into 3 groups of quality:

  1. Grade A – charcoal obtained by pyrolysis of wood species group 1: Birch, beech, ash, hornbeam, elm, oak, maple
  2. Grade B – charcoal obtained by pyrolysis of a mixture of wood species groups 1 and 2: aspen, alder, linden, poplar, willow
  3. Grade C – charcoal obtained by carbonization of a mixture of wood species groups 1, 2. In this case, the term “burning coal” we need to understand the production of charcoal without a special oven by heap or pit of charcoal

Our company monitors the quality of its goods, so we supply only high-quality coal brand.
